Let’s Wander | In Need of an Escape LA? Fresh Air Retreats in Nearby Destinations
It has been a difficult past few weeks for so many Los Angeles residents. Most of us have faced personal challenges or know someone who is going through it. If you are in need of a quick escape to a nearby destination that promises fresh air and tranquility, whether you're into beach vibes or spa retreats, these nearby getaways offer a breath of fresh air. Here are some of my favorite places to unwind and clear my mind.
Montecito
Nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Montecito is a haven of luxury and natural beauty. With its pristine beaches and upscale boutiques, it's the perfect spot to unwind and breathe in the fresh ocean air. Some of my favorite spots. Explore the Montecito Country Mart for amazing boutique shopping and grab lunch at Betina, it’s so good! Check out the grounds at Rosewood Miramar Resort, and sit oceanside enjoying the fresh ocean air, craft cocktails, and fresh seafood. Or lay poolside at the Coral Club Casino and then stroll up the coast on an electric beach cruiser.

Santa Barbara
Known as the ‘American Riviera,’ Santa Barbara offers a delightful mix of Spanish colonial architecture, beautiful beaches, and lush vineyards. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along lower State Street for shopping or relax on the sandy shores of East Beach. There is also plenty to keep your little ones busy; including the Sea Center on the pier, The SB Zoo and Moxi Museum of Exploration. For adults, (but also kid and pet-friendly), The Funk Zone offers a ton of wine tasting rooms, breweries and foodie inspired restaurants. I love grabbing a bold pinot at Malbec Tasting Room, dinner at The Lark and grabbing a paddle board in the marina for a sunset SUP adventure.

Laguna Beach
Made famous for its vibrant indie art scene and stunning coastal views, Laguna Beach is an ideal escape. Explore the tide pools at Crystal Cove State Park or take in the breathtaking sunset from Heisler Park. I love simply sitting at a local coffee shop watching the locals passerby or spectating an intense game of pick-up beach volleyball. The town is so casual and evokes chill.

Newport Beach
A coastal enclave that is home to some of the country’s most pristine sun-soaked beaches, best shopping, dining and quintessential California culture at every turn. With its picturesque harbor Newport Beach is a charming coastal retreat. Take a boat tour of the harbor or enjoy a day of shopping at Fashion Island. An alfresco lunch at The Pendry is fun people watching, and a great stay, a SUP or sail in the marina provides fun in the sun activities for everyone or check out the dining views at RH Ocean Grill (I know it’s a home decor store - but trust me), the ambiance hosts a skylit garden, heritage olive trees, oversized chandeliers, a cascading center fountain and panoramic views of the California coastline.

Ojai
Tucked away in a scenic valley, Ojai is known for its spiritual retreats and organic farming. Visit the local farmers' market, hike the trails of Los Padres National Forest, or indulge in a spa day at one of the many wellness centers. The Ojai Valley Inn is perfect for relaxation and dining, enjoy the spa and then a fantastic dinner. Or enjoy The Dutchess, another Rustic Canyon Family restaurant with popular eateries here in Los Angeles, known for Milo & Olive, Rustic Canyon, Huckleberry, Esters, Birdie G’s and more.
