In the world of architecture, color plays a pivotal role in shaping the aesthetic and emotional impact of a building. Among the spectrum of colors orange is rarely used as a dominant color in home design as it can be considered overly stimulating when used in large quantities.

Orange stands out! A bold and vibrant color that has been embraced by several renowned architects to create captivating structures.

Known for innovative designs, Frank Gehry used orange in the Experience Music Project in Seattle. The building's vibrant, iridescent panels reflect the dynamic nature of music and culture. In the Heydar Aliyev Center's interior, Zaha Hadid, celebrated for her futuristic style, incorporated orange accents creating a warm contrast to its sleek exterior. Richard Rogers, a pioneer of high-tech architecture, used orange in the Centre Pompidou in Paris to highlight structural elements, adding a playful touch to its industrial aesthetic. Jean Nouvel's Torre Agbar in Barcelona features a façade illuminated by vibrant orange hues, transforming the tower into a modern beacon in the city skyline. Rem Koolhaas used bold orange escalators in the Seattle Central Library, energizing the space and guiding visitors.

Here in Los Angeles, I’ve represented clients who have worked with local architects to show how orange can make a building unforgettable. A testament to how a splash of color can bring architecture to life and leave a lasting impression.

At Formosa1140, an 11-unit townhome building designed by LOHA Architects. Lorcan O’Herlihy parceled out a third of its privately-owned building site as a publicly-managed pocket park for the City of West Hollywood, simultaneously creating density and green space.

On the canals in Venice, Vaughan Trammell, AIA embraced orange-steel. The contemporary 3-story, steel & glass structure perfectly melds refined living spaces with outdoor flow, affording ocean breezes and classic footbridge views, sited on a prime corner lot of the Venice Canals.

In Pasadena, A Moule & Polyzoides, AIA restoration of famed architect Myron Hunt. A softer, muted orange dates to the original 1921 design. An arresting natural setting at the edge of the Arroyo Seco. Vista del Arroyo, a courtyard community listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
