Lately | LA Gets Its Jazz Festival
The first-ever Los Angeles Jazz Festival arrives this August as a 25-day, citywide cultural takeover spanning all 15 City Council districts, designed to become the world's third-largest international jazz festival and the largest Black-owned jazz festival ever. Rather than anchoring in a single venue, the festival spreads across more than two dozen free concerts in parks, neighborhoods, and community spaces, culminating in Jazz on the Beach, a closing weekend celebration at Dockweiler Beach on August 22-23 expected to draw up to 40,000 people per day. For a city with such deep musical roots, it has been a long time coming.
